All we like sheep have
gone astray; we have turned--every one--to his own way; and the LORD
has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah
53:6 ESV
We
have all wondered away from God and His way. We have all experienced
the way of pain and misery that the absence of God in our lives
causes.
Our
wondering and wastefulness caused God to lay our sin burden upon His
own Son.
Many
times the illustration of sheep is used in the bible to describe our
mentality as lost souls and our need for a shepherd. Jesus even calls
Himself “the Good Shepherd that lays down His life for the
sheep.”(John 10:11 ESV) He uses this illustration to tell His
listeners that he is the one, that can and will lead them in the
direction of God's way.
So,
when Isaiah says that “the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of
us all” he saying that in Jesus sacrifice we are set back on
the right path, if we follow Him. But we have to be willing to follow
Him.
Your
sin burden was taken care of in Jesus sacrifice on the cross, are you
following the Good Shepherd?
